Cameron was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in Febuary of 2008. After his tumor resection surgery, he underwent six weeks of radiation therapy and four months of chemotherapy. After these treatments, we went back into our "normal" lives and Cameron progressed well getting back into school and the day-to-day of being a little boy.

However, a routine MRI on March 19, 2010 showed his cancer had returned. On November 9th, 2011, Cameron finally conquered his battle with cancer when he opened his eyes to the joys of heaven. Even in these dark days, we know God has richly blessed us by putting so many wonderful people in our path during this journey and we are so very thankful for them all.

Hours away!

Well we are just a few hours away from the start of chemotherapy.  We received a call from Duke today (around 1pm) that the bed was ready and off we went.  One of the ladies in our church put together a quilt for Cam and had all his friends sign it for him.  He immediately put it on his bed.  When the attending physicians came by, somehow they knew of our church and said “I hear you belong to a big church in Apex” to which Cameron responded “yes there are a lot of people praying for me there.”  Melted my heart!  My little missionary!  Ernest and I are, of course, anxious about the days ahead.  However, Cameron is in the best of spirits.  Actually, he is full of himself.  He has been coloring cars all day and after finishing his Porsche he commented, “I’m so good, I scare myself.”  Where that came from, I have no idea.  Cameron, then, wrote a story about his Porsche after which he ate a full bowl of tomato soup for supper.  Oh what a difference a few months makes.

This evening I had the pleasure of demonstrating the art of Tegaderm changing to the nurse; she was surprised yet happy to learn the trick lies with the alcohol foam attached to the walls.  LOL!  Tomorrow could be an eventful day.  One of the chemo drugs he is receiving is potentially harmful to one’s hearing.  So, they administer another drug to protect the ear.  However, this particular drug can cause problems with the heart, blood pressure, and as with everything…nausea.  It is a 1-minute push drug that requires the doctor on the floor and a 1:2 nurse patient ratio.  Amazing and scary huh?  I keep telling myself “this is helpful…this is helpful”.  He will be receiving this at 10am and 1pm.  Please be in prayer for Cameron during this time.  We want to keep him out of the ICU and on track for the remainder of his treatments.

Words cannot describe the feeling I have sitting here waiting for tomorrow.  Even though we have been very honest with Cameron about what is coming, there is no way he can truly comprehend what tomorrow brings.  However, I will say, I have prayed and begged the Lord to give him peace that surpasses all understanding.  Maybe Cam’s happiness this week is just that; a calm the Lord sent to him.  I’m scared but I’m also at peace.  The Lord has done so many amazing things for us over the past few months; things the world would consider coincidence but I know they were His mighty loving hand.  Even tomorrow, I get to meet another mom for the first time whose son walked this road years ago.  She and I have spoken many times through email and over the phone yet we have never met.  It is not coincidence her son’s 6-month check is on our first day of chemo.  Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  Only our Lord God himself could arrange this family to be at the hospital on our first day there.  My wonderful loving Savior worked that out long before we ever knew Cameron was sick.  Truly amazing!

Well I’m off to try to get some rest.  Ernest is at the hospital with Cam tonight (as per his request).  We will update the blog as soon as the day is complete.  Pray, pray, pray our Action Jackson will keep the strength and endurance he has exhibited thus far.  Much love to you all!

LeAnn,

I'm praying for Cameron this morning that everything goes smoothly and that he will not experience any of those scary side effects from the chemo.

You are doing an amazing job of relying fully on God to carry you through all of this!

Love,
Kelly
