Cameron was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in Febuary of 2008. After his tumor resection surgery, he underwent six weeks of radiation therapy and four months of chemotherapy. After these treatments, we went back into our "normal" lives and Cameron progressed well getting back into school and the day-to-day of being a little boy.
However, a routine MRI on March 19, 2010 showed his cancer had returned. On November 9th, 2011, Cameron finally conquered his battle with cancer when he opened his eyes to the joys of heaven. Even in these dark days, we know God has richly blessed us by putting so many wonderful people in our path during this journey and we are so very thankful for them all.
Well…the day finally arrived for the Angels Among Us 5k and Family Fun Walk and what a day it was! LeAnn ran the 5k race and did really well…I watched the race and was SPEC-TAC-U-LAR at it. As she came up to the finish line, she grabbed Cam from the sidewalk and they finished the last of the race together. It was so great to see him running with that silly little smile beaming from ear to ear. Thinking back to a year ago, it was amazing to see how much our little man has grown.
We had a HUGE turnout for Team Action Jackson as our group photo took a whole bleacher to accommodate everyone. Hopefully we can get a copy of the picture to put up here soon. Our whole family is so appreciative to the support shown to help make this such a great day. THANKS EVERYONE!!
LeAnn and I both realize what a strong little boy we have when we look back to a year ago. Cam had completed about half of his Radiation treatments and was still working at regaining a lot of his basic functions. He was so determined to get out and hunt Easter eggs, I had to hold the back of his shirt to keep him from toppling over. This year, not only did I not have to hold him, but he was running at full speed through the yard to get back and forth between hiding places. On a day with so much meaning as far as our faith is concerned, seeing how God has worked in Cam's life over the past year made LeAnn and I realize, yet again, how blessed we are. While he still struggles with different day-to-day things (and will throughout his life) because of the Radiation and Chemo treatments, seeing his determination and silly smile inspires me every day...even in the chaos which is the world today. Le and I have talked so many times about how 2008 was a complete blur and almost seems like it never even happened, but then we hit milestones like yesterday and it all comes flooding back. We can see how Cam has taken on every challenge thrown at him and has come out smiling through it all. What an amazing little guy we've been given.
The Angels Among Us walk is coming up, so we've placed the order for t-shirts. However, we ordered a few spares just in case anyone else wanted one after the fact, so if you want one, give LeAnn a shout and she'll let you know of the availability. Le and I both figured we'd probably sell a handful to family and friends, but the final order came up to around TWO HUNDRED, so a huge "THANKS!!!" to everyone. What we thought about doing going forward is keeping a running order of people who want one and once that count gets to a certain number, we'll place another order as we need to have that certain number to make it financially feasible. So, if you missed out this time, please still let us know and we'll put your name on the list for the next order and those funds will go to the 2010 Angels walk team.
