Yesterday was a really tough day for our little guy. We went to Duke for a port flush and it turned into a nightmare. The past couple of times they have tried to access his port, it hasn't gone so well so I think we were all a bit anxious for the visit yesterday. His port was placed almost 19 months ago when he was a skinny little boy and with the weight gain, I am afraid his belly has pushed his port around which is causing the issues. But needless to say, they tried three times and still no access. The third try was horrible; the nurse couldn't hit his port, refused to stop trying, and quite honestly was just torturing the poor child. All the while, he was screaming like I have never heard him scream in the past 3.5 years and in the end, the momma bear in me came out and we left. EJ and I have been in and out of tears since then replaying Cameron's miserable cry in our heads. And what's amazing, and heartbreaking, is that he still never complained. He was quiet and visibly sad but never did he complain or exhibit anger about the situation. He's such an amazing little boy.
Sadly, it appears the bliss of headache free days may have ended with Cameron. We are struggling with next steps. Should we even do the MRI on October 3rd? Should we replace his port to avoid situations like Friday? Oh the awful decisions we have to make; decisions where he loses no matter what we choose. But even with the emotional struggles we go through on a regular basis, I am so grateful to my Lord who supplies our every need. Whether it be as simple as a phone call or email from a friend, or as big as a box of goodies from Cameron's friends at Hot Wheels (which by the way arrived on the first day his headaches returned last week), the Lord is providing what we need to get through each day. Please continue to pray for Cameron's pain. Love to you all...
