Cameron was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in Febuary of 2008. After his tumor resection surgery, he underwent six weeks of radiation therapy and four months of chemotherapy. After these treatments, we went back into our "normal" lives and Cameron progressed well getting back into school and the day-to-day of being a little boy.

However, a routine MRI on March 19, 2010 showed his cancer had returned. On November 9th, 2011, Cameron finally conquered his battle with cancer when he opened his eyes to the joys of heaven. Even in these dark days, we know God has richly blessed us by putting so many wonderful people in our path during this journey and we are so very thankful for them all.

Oh what a day...

Today was Ernest's birthday and Cameron mentioned it as soon as he opened his eyes. He was very excited to wish his daddy a Happy Birthday and we were excited to celebrate as a family of four. And after two days of headaches, it was even better that Cameron woke up this morning and said his head was a ZERO (we use a scale of 1 to 10 to rate how bad they are). However, around lunch, i looked in his sweet little eyes and could tell he wasn't feeling good but after a long nap, he was himself again. Even though we have been riding this roller coaster for years now, the onset of headaches changes the mood in our home drastically.

This was a very sad day for me though. A good friend of mine lost her husband today to cancer. He leaves behind two boys, one of which will turn 12 next week. I spent most of the morning in tears as the situation hits very close to us. I was angered at some of the comments people were writing to her on their Facebook page. Comments like "what a glorious day." Yes, for her husband it was, but for those left behind to pick up the pieces of a broken life, nothing could be further from the truth. I don't understand why people who have suffered little think they have the right to say such things to those who are suffering greatly. And I pray such things didn't come out of my mouth prior to Cameron's battle with this horrible disease.

God's allowance of suffering is so hard to understand and I wonder daily when it will be my time to walk through a season of grief. I am suppose to travel to Chicago on Sunday to attend a pediatric brain tumor conference but the death of my friend's husband and Cam's recent headaches have up'd my anxiety about leaving greatly. I have such a heavy heart...for our family, for my friend, for so many who are going through difficult times right now. Hoping the storms of life will calm soon.
