We are ready to Rock and Roll!

After three days of testing, all signs point to go as far as Cameron’s chemotherapy.  The MRI came back perfect.  Praise the Lord!  His ears were perfect, his heart was perfect, and his labs were perfect.  He is basically walking into chemotherapy with the hemoglobin, white cell, and platelet counts of a perfectly healthy six year old.  The Hickman catheter was placed today successfully.  He, as expected, doesn’t like the line but as always, he is adjusting.  He was in a bit of pain as he woke up from anesthesia and looked at me with such sad eyes; almost as if he was asking the question “how could you let this happen again.”  Words cannot express how hard it is to put a smile on your face and declare to your child how this is all for his benefit…especially when you desperately want to just sit in the corner and cry.  But, spending any time at Duke will remind you of one thing, no matter how bad you have it, someone has it worse.  As I looked around the post-op area, I found myself feeling so blessed that Cameron only had a central line and four months of chemotherapy ahead.  We have hope for recovery; a feeling many moms do not have.  I am also very blessed to have such a wonderful man as Dr. G taking care of Cameron.  He came to see us before surgery and he honestly melted my heart in the way he looked at my son; almost as if he was looking at his own.  There is no question as to his love for Cameron, his calling to this field, and definitely no question as to his dedication and desire to see Cameron beat this cancer.  Please continue to pray for us as next week will be his last before chemotherapy begins.  Blessings to you all!
