It was a year ago today that we rushed to Duke for an emergency MRI to only be told we probably had "weeks" and not "months" with our little guy. Boy did he prove the doctors wrong; he blessed the Earth with his presence for another 11 months.
It's been a really emotional week. Not only because I miss Cameron more than words could possibly say but because two dear friends of mine found out the big "C" has now invaded their lives, one of which I met at Duke while both our boys were going through treatment for cancer. And today, a friend will bury her young husband and father of three...yet another victim of this awful disease.
As I try to endure the pain in my heart this week and celebrate Christmas, I wonder how many people take their health, their family, their life, for granted and acknowledge how quickly things can change? And more than anything, I wonder how many take for granted the real reason we celebrate Christmas. For me personally, I have a new-found appreciation for the birth, and sacrifice, of Jesus. Perhaps it is the result of watching my own son suffer and die a miserable death. Maybe it is imagining what Mary must have gone through knowing the day would come when she would give up the Savior of the world. But even with the sadness in my soul, it is with assurance when I look at Cameron's grave that I know he isn't there; he is experiencing Christmas with the ONE we can only worship from afar.

I just want to say thank you for helping me put my life in perspective. Through this tragedy, Cameron and your family have taught me that I should appreciate everything! When I'm frustrated about a small thing I take a step back and tell myself that if Cameron could have a positive attitude while dying from cancer I can definitely put a smile of my face and think positive. When I'm having a bad day and feel like just doing nothing I think about you Mrs.LeAnn, you are a role model. While mourning the loss of your son you continue on by doing that interview on G105 and delivering toys to the hospital (with a smile on your face) and I'm sure many more things. As a woman I hope I can be like you when I grow up and have the strength that you have shown through this event in your life. I hope you realize how much Cameron's story has touched my life and many other's lives.
